Internal pelvic release work
A woman’s pelvis is an incredible piece of architecture guarding the internal organs, and our powerhouse, the womb. This is a powerful and expertly guided treatment that holds the soft tissues of the pelvic space through intentional touch, creating space for physical and emotional tension to be released.
As with all other areas of the body, the soft tissues of the pelvic space can hold tension, consciously or unconsciously. Internal pelvic release work (IPRW) uses tender touch and directed breathing to connect with the ligaments, muscles, and fascia through the back wall of the vagina. The process allows the opportunity to free tension and enhance stability of the bones and the organs.
There are a myriad of ways tension can form in this space, from lifestyle-related factors like posture, movement, or hobbies, or from trauma, injury or surgery. Soft tissues can hold our emotions and memories. Tension can restrict movement, flow, expansion, and space for the bones and organs. Therefore, having the potential to impact experiences of the pelvis like menstrual flow, pregnancy, birth, and intimacy.
An internal pelvic release work session invites release through direct and tender touch, allowing the tissues to ‘sigh’.
Our team has had the privilege of learning this body of work from the rich expertise and experience of Melbourne-based midwife, bodyworker, and birth educator, Fiona Hallinan.
