Nikolina is a mover, meditator and Osteopath, and in this iteration of Body Language we spent a day together where through bodywork, movement and nature, Nikolina connected with her internal landscape, her breath and body, and reflected upon the impact this practice on her life, work and creative expression.
Nikolina and I connected on a dance floor many years ago, it’s where I have met most of my best friends. I was curious to explore the intersection of dance and bodywork, as they have both been intricately woven into the journey of understanding myself, and feeling at home in my body.
Learning to dance, and not in the formal sense of the word, yet the - pulsating, intuitive, feel-good, responding to music when it hits my cells - kind of dancing, changed my life irrevocably. Moving my body on a dance floor, in my lounge room, or amongst the trees, where I practised time and time again to feel my feet on the floor and move away from the critical voice in my head, brought me into contact with how to feel incredibly alive, present, and in love with myself and those around me. It is my number one medicine for processing and moving big, deep, hard, and overwhelming emotions. I’ll be forever grateful for the impact of dance on my wellbeing in all senses of the word. Dancing to me, is freedom.
In this edition of bringing Body Language to life, Nikolina hosted an explorative movement workshop that guided us out of the head and into the body. It was an immersive amalgamation of her passions of understanding the mechanics and capacity of our bodies, the magic of bringing presence to sensation and feeling, and her love of moving well and with joy. Nikolina brought her years of study, self inquiry, exploration and play to this workshop, and as Bodyworks evolves, we both cannot wait to bring more spaces for people to connect with dance alongside of us.
